The POZ Life Seminar weekend was “life-changing” for me in many ways. Although I am 60 years old and have been HIV+ since 1984 and blessed with good health for the most part; I found myself jumping back into denial.

One would think that after living with HIV for more than 25 years, denial would be a unlikely place for me to land. For the 18 months immediately proceeding the January, 2010 POZ Weekend, I had been isolating and even stopped going to therapy. I had been laid-off from my job and felt my life had no purpose and I was lost and floundering – Not to mention depressed too.

I left the weekend energized and filled with love overflowing. The first thing I did Sunday night at 10:00 PM when I got home was call and leave my therapist a voice mail to set-up an appointment. Monday morning I called and set up an appointment to have my labs done and see my doctor again.

But getting out of denial and taking responsibility for my own health is only one of the things I got out of this weekend. The amount of love and non-judgmental support was amazing. The connections I made with the other participants I feel will be with people I can call friends for the rest of my life.

I gathered over a dozen phone numbers and have called all of them and spoken with 10 of them this week. I plan on joining a new support group that will be forming for “long-term survivors” and/or seniors.

I am so filled with inspiration that I plan on attending the support group facilitator training in March of this year so I can give back that which was given so freely and lovingly to me. I had no purpose and was filled with isolation and now I feel I am inspired to become a volunteer for The LifeGroup, LA and now, I have new friends and I have a purpose. I am so blessed to have attended this weekend and I have been promoting the next one all week.

I have called all the case managers of Common Ground and Jeffrey Goodman to tell them how wonderful this weekend was for me and how I recommend it for all their clients and staff as well.

Thank you so much, Sunnie, Chris, Nurse Jim and everyone else for filling me with love, and getting me “back -on-track” and armed with the most up-to-date information about HIV and it's treatment options. I love you all and so blessed to have taken part in this most loving empowering weekend.

I love you a lot and am honored to know you.

the love and time you spent with us obviously moved the group of more than 50 people to an emotionally filled growth and most by witnessing have become empowered and re-inspired just like your flyer said.

Hey Sunnie,

This weekend I had a great time. Here's a poem I wrote.

Against the Storm

As clouds gather and strong wind blow

Craling we try to find a safe abode

Having no other place, stepped inside

Being among strangers, wanting to hide.

Expressing personal deep dark. . . i Fears

Not being the only one it is now clear

As the anchor rode grew new lengths

For our weakness became our strengths.

Against the storm ready to battle with

Weapons of knowledge and tenderness

Once a dying ember ready for flight

New found strength noo a radiant light.

No as one we are able to stand

To lend others a helpful hand

Beginning our friendship a saving grace

I have been and always ill be . . .

I AM WHO I AM

Thank you,

DMP

Sunnie / Chris,

How are you guys doing? I hope all is well.

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you both for the tremendous effort you put into your organization. And this applies to all of the volunteers also. All of you did such an awesome job at making everyone feel what was said in the beginning, that your presence is for nobody else but the participants. And I definitely felt that, and I know I speak for most of the people that were there.

There's a ton of resources out there that I could have tapped to help me come to terms with the situation I am in. The Life Group LA was definitely and undoubtedly the correct decision for me.

So now I can move on, and my first step is definitely to give back. I am interested in volunteering. I havea M-F 9 to 5 job, but am available anytime.

Again, thanks so much.

What an amazing experience this last weekend was. I am more enthused to live now, and now I have the substance to do it with. I will be a better person and I will help stop the spread of this disease.

Thank you for bringing all these brilliant and kind presenters to the seminar. Their presentations were all easy to understand and follow and they were all so open to questions.

Thanks to all the volunteers for their hard work and natural love.

Nurse Lynne, John, Jim and Daniel… from the heart presentations… WOW

Your groups energy is amazing.

Thank you for providing such a great day of presenters at the event two weeks ago. It really helped me be more prepared for deciding when I should start taking medications and what I have to do to prepare.

I started taking my meds last week and the tips that were provided have helped me over come my side affects.

I plan on coming to the August weekend in Pasadena for sure.

Charlie
