Volunteer Opportunities

Emotional Support Volunteers
Co-facilitate a support group or provide one-on-one emotional support for persons affected by HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses.
36 hours over two weekends
Average 2-4 hours per week for 6 months service, including bi-monthly supervision/support groups with peers.

POZ Life Weekend Seminar Facilitators
Co-facilitate a support groups during the weekend seminar for persons who are infected or affected by HIV/AIDS.
36 hours over two weekends – Currently looking for volunteers who speak Spanish for our VIDAS Positivas Program.
One weekend every 2-6 months

POZ Life Weekend Seminar Tech Team
Provide assistance with technical aspects of weekend seminars, such as sound, food, etc.
2 hr. New Volunteer Orientation
Previous attendance desirable.
One weekend every 2-6 months

Special Events
Provide assistance with planning and implementing special events. Day of event opportunities available.
2 hr. New Volunteer Orientation
Event specific orientation
Days, evenings, or weekends. One-time commitment okay

Community Outreach
Promote The Life Group LA at health fairs and community events and information distribution throughout city
2 hr. New Volunteer Orientation
Short training.
Days, evenings, or weekends

Office Support
Help with phones, translation, copying, data-entry, Newsletter and other projects.
2 hr. New Volunteer Orientation
During weekday office hours.

Committee Volunteer
Provide assistance with Board Affairs, Development, Executive, Finance, Personnel, Programs, and Public Relations.
Depends on qualifications
Attend monthly meetings

The training requires a commitment of three full days to receive your certificate of completion.

Dear Sunnie,

First of all, I want to say thank you, thank you, thank you for your phone call today. As you know, it has been a long road for me to commit to a volunteer role at The Life Group LA. After being a client three years ago, I knew I wanted to give back in some way to the group. I volunteered for some hours at POZ Life weekends, volunteered at your Gay Rodeo and Gay Pride booths, raised money at Saddle Up LA, and eventually spent entire POZ Life weekends with the Tech Team. I got to know you and the other volunteers. I even found a best friend who I tragically lost in a still unexplained incident. I can’t think of another group I am more invested in than The Life Group L.A. Your board members and facilitators spent 36 hours with me over the past two weeks and guided me to become a new facilitator for the Life Group. I am humbled by the feedback they gave me. I am lifted up by the support I received and used to successfully complete the training. Thank you so much!

Even if you don't have the time to take on the commitment of a regular, weekly support group, our trained facilitators also facilitate the support groups at our POZ Life Weekend Seminars and our VIDAS Positivas as well as help in other capacities that occur less frequently, like our fundraising team, outreach team, volunteer development and organizational development!

Here’s a chance to learn or enhance your skills, and share the gifts you have within yourself to give with others!
